Success in Sterling Heights

We are always proud when we see our friend of the store, Leona Rusel of Sterling Heights. Leona decided it was time to get down to business with her health and quality of life and appointed us to help her with the tools to make those changes. Leona invested into 2 pieces of equipment that her and her husband would use -- and now adore.

When talking to Leona, she tells it like it is: A quality piece of exercise equipment, added to the change in her diet, changed her life. She lost over 88lbs, was taken off her blood-pressure medication, and she is still going! She Also had a perfect attendance record at our free Kettlebell BootCamp hosted at the Sterling Heights location.

Leona is the proud owner of a spacious and comfortbale treadmill where she walks her heart out, and also our hottest piece called the X-ride that works the whole body and is one of the best weight loss tools in the land!

We can make her story -- Your story.
 Fondly,

Birmingham

The month of June was a busy month for Team Birmingham. We took our talents out to the Birmingham Farmers Market off of Old Woodward for their Annual Health and Fitness Event. It was a great event for us to take our maiden voyage of the Elliptigo to downtown Birmingham. The Elliptigo as usual spoke for it self with great reviews and curiosity from all. We also brought out the Power Block set up with a bench, Lemond Spinner, and some accessories from Spri. It was a great opportunity to get out of the store for a couple hours and showcase a sample of what we have to offer and see some of our customers and new customers from the community. Our next up coming event will be held here at the Birmingham store during the Woodward Dream Cruise on Saturday August 20TH. Come join us where we will display some of our customer vehicles here in the parking lot. Great fun for all!

Saved by the Bell

If you haven't noticed this little steel cannon-ball with a handle yet, you might be accused of being a bit of a recluse. I am seeing them all over town and I even noticed them a couple months ago at Best Buy of all places, which made me chuckle, but then again –Why not? They are the hottest trend in fitness right now”, says Certified Personal Trainer, Matthew Hunter

The Kettlebell concept is basic he says. Pick it up. Put it down. Swing it around. Easy right? However, when we combine the up – the down – and the sideways – something happens that we don't get from machines. “We move on all planes of motion –Just like in the real world. When you push that lawn-mower around – Do you have any idea how many muscles are required to make that happen?”

“The advantage of Kettlebells is that they activate more muscles in exercises that people are already familiar with. We call it linked strength.”, Hunter says. “When you lift a Kettlebell over your head, it requires you to use the same muscles in the shoulder send the weight up as the machine. However, that's where machines stop and Kettlebells keep going. Getting you up off the bench and then lifting the weight will work your legs, your core – and your shoulders. It allows you to use less weight, be more comfortable, and mimicks real-world conditions where many muscles work together – not independently of one another.”

Kettlebells require no other equipment than the Kettlebell itself. A mat can be helpful for some of the abdominal exercises but not a must. Kettlebells are also considered to be one of the most efficient calorie burners in modern exercise culture. “More muscles working – Means more muscles eating (burning fat)”, says Hunter. It is argued that the Kettlebell burns more calories that any traditional form of exercise.

The workouts generally tap into the bigger muscle groups, like legs and shoulders, and have a strong core or abdominal component to them. So if you get into Kettlebells, your day's of doing crunches are finished.

For those who would like to investigate for themselves, American Home Fitness of Sterling Heights (SW corner of Hall rd. and Schoenherr) offers a free Kettlebell-Camp that meets every 2 weeks during the summer and has been a real hit with it's guests. No purchase is required, and they have some Kettlebells for you to try and see how you like it. Hunter says, “The great part is that I know people over 60 years old and as young as 10 doing them. They are safe, low-impact, fun, and gives you a solid workout. You know when you leave you got your money's worth – But the fact that it's free probably makes it even better for them”.

If you are interested in attending one of their upcoming classes, the next meeting will be at 8 a.m. On July 10th, 2011. Please RSVP the store at 586-737-2601 to get yourself a mat and Kettlebell reserved.
