Do Ellipticals Burn More Calories Than Treadmills?

When it comes to ellipticals and treadmills, many wonder which one (of the two) is worth their time since they both seem as if they require the same amount of exertion. However, one is burning a tiny bit more on the other due to the small advantage it offers over the other. So with this being said, we're going to compare and contrast the two to decipher a winner.

Ellipticals versus Treadmills

Treadmills are known for allowing one to run in place at a desired speed and ellipticals are known for providing resistance. However, treadmills can slightly pull ahead of ellipticals when it comes to burning calories (if you're using the same heart rate on both of the machines.) This is due to the fact that treadmills require one to lift their feet off of the equipment (as they run), which makes one burn more energy in the long run.

However, this doesn't mean that one should stick to treadmills whenever they work out in the future. The energy and calories you burn strictly rely on how hard you push yourself (regardless of the equipment you plan on using.) For example, most people think it's pretty easy to elevate their heart rate with a treadmill workout, but find running outside a form of cruel and unusual punishment. However, these people with a strong dislike for running might find that using an elliptical is an excellent way to burn calories and skip running altogether. This is especially true if one decides to crank an elliptical to a resistance level of 20, which equals out to one burning more calories than they would jogging on a treadmill for around four hours.

So in consideration of the information above, a treadmill is a better choice is one is going by heart rate. However, all workouts rely on the energy you're investing into them and how you apply them to your gym routine. For more information on fitness equipment, contact the team at American Home Fitness today.
